“Felt good to win this year, given the strong competition,” says Vidya Balan on awards

In this interview, Vidya Balan, who picked up the Best Actress Award for Kahaani at virtually every Bollywood awards ceremony this month, talks about her unprecedented achievement of being the only actor anywhere to have won the same award four years in a row (previously for Ishqiya, Paa, and The Dirty Picture). Vidya also talks about her recent marriage to Siddharth Roy Kapur, her forthcoming films, and also shares her views on the objectification of women in Hindi cinema.

(This interview first aired on CNN-IBN)

  1. It is so hard to like her! So pompous! How she has redefined actress’s position in movies? Every decade had at least one actress who was just exceptional and the movies were made for them for e.g. Nutan, Waheeda Rehman, Meena Kumari, Hema malini, Madhuri, Sri Devi more recently, kajol, rani mukerji etc. An actress does not have to do a Dirty picture to redefine standards!!

  2. There’s no other contemporary mainstream actress in Bollywood who can speak as well as her. It shows clearly she has a world beyond the movies that is rich and interesting, that she reads or is intellectually curious.

  3. people should have open mind to accept a “dirty picture” . it very clearly shows how conventional still are people when they say “An actress does not have to do a Dirty picture to redefine standards!!” so ridiculous :-@ :-@

  8. Great to hear that actors from bollywood are ardent admirers of legends like Mohanlal .It’s a pity that the genius of his likes have not been explored more often outside regional parameters.
