Cast: Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty, Bobby Deol, Irrfan Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Celina Jaitley, Rimii Sen

Director: Anees Bazmee

There’s no polite way to say this – director Anees Bazmee’s Thank You is an awful, awful film. Five writers are credited with having worked on the script, and yet all they could come up with is a moronic plot about three women who hire a detective to expose their cheating husbands. Bazmee dips into his seemingly never-ending vault of sexist dialogues and slapstick gags to deliver yet another unmistakably sleazy comedy.

Bobby Deol, Irrfan Khan and Sunil Shetty are three married friends in Toronto who can’t keep their privates in their pants. When their wives – Sonam Kapoor, Rimii Sen and Celina Jaitley – decide they’ve had enough, they hire the services of Private Eye Akshay Kumar to teach their husbands a lesson.

Badly scripted, shoddily photographed and embarrassingly performed, Thank You is one of those rare films that gets absolutely nothing right. Ever since the undeserving success of No Entry, Bazmee has churned out a string of comedies on similar lines. Cheating husbands and forgiving wives are staple characters in Bazmee’s regressive films, which invariably end with these doormat women going back to their repentant spouses. But repetition is the least of this film’s problems… Thank You doesn’t work because it’s just not funny.

At best Irrfan Khan occasionally livens up dull scenes with his straight-faced humor, and he’s complemented by Rimii Sen who matches his timing. But the big disappointment of course is Akshay Kumar, who works through his scenes on auto-pilot mode. Once a sharp comic actor, it appears as if Akshay himself is now tired of doing the same thing over and over again.

What you take back with you as you leave the cinema in the end, is the repugnant image of these four male actors – each well into his 40s – slobbering over blondes half their age. They’re dirty old men, and Thank You is a dirty little picture.

I’m going with one out of five for director Anees Bazmee’s Thank You. Be smart, exercise your right to say no!

  3. Rajeev learn how to write reviews……. you write like an idiot 8/10 movies you review are usually bad or “awful” films according to you. Like they say unless you have experience in making a movie then you should have no right at being a movie critic.

  6. @ Manpreet – You blame a critic like Rajeev Masand for giving his views on a dumb movie like Thank you….Cant blame him for rating 8/10 movies as bad or awful……because most of your A List actors and directors churn our mediocre stuff and with people like you who relish this kind of downgraded cinema these people are even emboldened……According to you movies like Thank you might as well deserve an Oscar too since I highly doubt if you have seen any quality cinema or if you are a mature viewer………

  9. RM.. you are the best. I never watch a bolly movie without your review.
Above 3 – Definitely give a dekkho at the theatre
2.5-3 – Download the pirated version available on net or get from local cd shop. Worth the time but not the 300 bucks.
2 or less – Don’t even bother to watch anyway. Why waste precious time?

  11. THANK YOU ANEES BAZAMI !!!!
SAW THANK YOU FOR THE SECOND TIME AFTER BUYING THE TICKET IN BLACK AT RAZAAZ TALKIES AT MIRA-ROAD, THANE NEAR MUMBAI. AND LOVED IT AND SO DID THE AUDIENCE. SOME CRITICS WHO GAVE THIS MOVIE LOW RATING SHOULD BE SACKED FROM THEIR JOBS FOR MISLEADING THE PEOPLE. SOME CRITICS HAVE A PERSONAL PROBLEM WITH AKSHAY KUMAR AND THAT IS WHY THEY END UP GIVING HIM ONE STAR RATINGS LIKE RAJEEV MASAND.

THANK YOU ANEES BAZAMI FOR GIVING THE MOVIE STARVED AUDIENCE AFTER A LONG SPELL OF CRICKET A FILM LIKE THANK YOU WATCHING WHICH YOU CAN TRULY UNWIND AND RELAX. AKSHAY KUMAR IS AT LAST CAST IN HIS ELEMENT AS A SMART ASS MARRIAGE CONSULTANT .HE LOOKS GREAT AND GIVES AN EDGE TO THE CHARACTER AND DOES A GREAT JOB. HE IS FANTASTIC. IRFAN KHAN IS A DELIGHT TO WATCH AS A SMART ROOKIE.HIS ROLE WILL BE VERY APPRECIATED.SUNIL SHETTY IS CUTE AND AND ADORABLE IN HIS CLUMSY AVTAAR AND ACTS VERY WELL.HE HAS GROWN TREMENDOUSLY AS AN ACTOR.AFTER RED ALERT, THIS IS A LOVELY PERFORMANCE. BOBBY DEOL IS GOOD TOO. MALLIKA SHERAWAT DAZZELS IN THE RAZIA NUMBER.SONAM, CELINA AND RIMI SEN ARE GOOD TOO. ESPECIALLY RIMI SEN WHO’S TRACK IS TRULY GOOD. THANK YOU, LOOKS POSH AND SONGS ARE WELL SHOT ON LOVELY, FOREIGN LOCALES.PHOTOGRAPHY IS GOOD. THE SONGS ARE GOOD TOO. OVER ALL THE REQUIRED PRESCRIPTION FOR A FANTASTIC WEEKEND. DON’T MISS THE FUN, FORGET THE CRITICS WHO ONLY LIKES SAD ARTY MOVIES. CRITICS HAVE BECOME VERY UNRELIABLE ,MISLEADING, CONDESENDING AND IN SOME CASES ABUSIVE AND UNCIVIL. (LIKE RAJEEV MASAND WAS WITH AKSHAY KUMAR DURING THE RELEASE OF KHATTA MEETA ) AND HAVE LOST THEIR SENSEBILITY TO ENJOY A GOOD COMMERCIAL MOVIE AND ARE VERY PARTIAL TO SOME ACTORS ONLY. DON’T LISTEN TO THE CRITICS AND MISS A FUN FILM WHICH IS TOTALLY PAISA VASOOL.
    THANK YOU ROCKS!!!

  12. disappointed, Rajeev, in your rating. 1/5 = 20% value. at max 0.5/5 would have been more apt.

  14. i saw the reviews on the net for thank u.they were really bad but since i had no other option that day i had to watch thank u reluctantly.
to my surprise the movie was awesome.i laughed a lot.
one thing I WAS PISSED OFF WITH IS THE REVIEW OF CRITICS.
i think u feel u can increase ur own standards by giving bad reviews to most of the movies.

  15. @vijesh i think more complex movies are not right all the time.though i like them too but some light hearted movies are also a must. i wudn’t want to spend 300 bucks to know how miserable someone’s life is or how much pain or complications are there in life all the time…….

    Comment by mayur — May 3, 2011 @ 1:48 pm

  16. wow u actually gave that movie 1/5……..from what i have seen till now , i think had this movie had ` the great ` SRK in lt , it definitely wud hve got more then 3 stars….dude u need to change ur profession
